Krishna songs in Mayilpeeli album are my all time favorite songs. Chandana Charchitha song in this album is worth mentioning. I have always been enchanted by the opening lines of this song which is a sloka. Never knew its meaning because it was in Sanskrit. Still I continued listening to it every morning. Yeah, this sloka became my alarm tone about an year ago :) and it still continues to be the same..

Later I figured out that it was the starting sloka of Narayaneeyam. Narayaneeyam is a wonderful poem composed in Sanskrit by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri, a devotee poet of Kerala in the 16th century.With the help of a friend in an online community, I grasped a portion of its profound meaning: -

സംഗീതം, അനന്തസാഗരം..
സംഗീതത്തെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു തുടങ്ങിയിട്ട് കുറച്ചു വര്ഷങ്ങള് മാത്രം. എങ്ങിലും അതില്ലാതെയുള്ള ജീവിതം ഇപ്പോള് ആലോചിക്കാനേ വയ്യ! ഒരു കാര്യം ഓര്ത്താല് എല്ലാ ജീവന്റെ തുടിപ്പിലും സംഗീതം ഉണ്ട്. ഇല്ലേ? ഹാ! എന്നാല് ഉണ്ട്. ഞാന് അത് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. സംഗീതം എന്ന മഹാസാഗരത്തിന്റെ തീരത്ത് പകച്ചു നില്ക്ക്കുന്ന ഒരു കൊച്ചു കുട്ടിയില് നിന്ന് ഒരു വന്പുലിയായി ഞാന് മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു! പുലിയെന്നു പറഞ്ഞാല് പോരാ-പുപ്പുലി! - എന്നൊന്നും ആരും ഇതുവരെ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല. എങ്ങിലും എനിക്കങ്ങനെ തോന്നി. എന്റെ പാട്ട് കേട്ടാല് നിങ്ങള്ക്കും ഇത് വിശ്വസനീയമാകും. ശാസ്ത്രീയമായി സംഗീതം അഭ്യസിക്കാതെ തന്നെ എനിക്ക് ഇത്രയും നന്നായി പാടാന് കഴിയുന്നത് എന്തുകൊണ്ടായിരിക്കും? ഇതിനെയായിരിക്കും ജനങ്ങള് നാച്ചുറല് ടാലെന്റ്റ് അഥവാ "ജീനിയസ്" എന്നൊക്കെ പറയുന്നത്. എന്നെ സമ്മതിക്കണം അല്ലേ? പക്ഷെ അഹങ്കാരം ഒട്ടും തന്നെ തൊട്ടു തീണ്ടാത്ത ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് സംഗീതം ശാസ്ത്രീയമായി തന്നെ പഠിക്കാന് തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ഇനി അതിന്റെ ഒരു കുറവ് വേണ്ട. ലാലേട്ടന് സിനിമകളിലെ ഗാനങ്ങള് മാത്രം പാടി നടന്നിരുന്ന ഞാന് ഇന്ന് ആദ്യമായി കര്ണാടക സംഗീതം ഒന്ന് പയറ്റി നോക്കി. രാഗം-മോഹനം, താളം-രൂപകം, ചതുരശ്ര ജാതി (ഇങ്ങനെയും ഒരു ജാതിയോ!) ഇതൊന്നും വകവയ്ക്കാതെ ഞാന് പാടി തുടങ്ങി - "വര വീണ മൃദു പാണി, വനരുഹലോചന റാണി.. ". പക്ഷെ ഒരു പ്രശ്നം. ഞാന് പാട്ട് നിര്ത്തി! ഇത് സിനിമ പാട്ട് പോലെ മലയാളത്തില് അല്ല. സംഗതി ശുദ്ധ സംസ്കൃതമാണ് - ദേവഭാഷ! അര്ത്ഥമറിയാതെ ഞാന് പാടുന്ന പ്രശ്നമില്ല! മാത്രമല്ല, ശ്രുതി സ്വര രാഗ താള ലയങ്ങള് ഇതൊക്കെ എനിക്ക് അന്യമാണ് എന്ന് മനസിലായി. ഒരു ഗുരുവുണ്ടയിരുന്നെങ്ങില്.. എന്നോര്ത്തുപോയ നിമിഷം! പക്ഷെ സാരമില്ല. ഒരു വഴി തെളിയാതിരിക്കില്ല. സംസ്കൃതം ഞാന് സ്വായത്തമാക്കും. ഞാന് ശാസ്ത്രീയ സംഗീതം പഠിക്കും. ഇതെന്റെ ശുഭാപ്തി വിശ്വാസമാണ്.അതുവരെ ഞാന് ലാലേട്ടന് സിനിമകളിലെ ഗാനങ്ങള് മാത്രം പാടി നടക്കും.. "പ്രമദവനം വീണ്ടും.. "
